The Sony A7 III is far from new, having been released in February 2018, but it remains one of the best contenders among affordable full-frame cameras. Its specs make it a great all-rounder for both stills and video. Its handling and control layout aren't perfect, and other cameras may make headlines in one area or another, but few have such consistent capabilities across such a wide range of disciplines.
The A7 III makes no mistakes. Its specs make it a great all-rounder, so powerful that its price is really a surprise. Its handling and control layout aren't perfect (fans may disagree!), but that's quickly forgotten in the face of its autofocus and continuous shooting performance, not to mention its 4K video capabilities.
The 24 MP resolution might put some people off. We've been spoiled by a lot of higher resolution full-frame cameras lately, such as the Canon EOS 5DS, Nikon D850 and Sony A7R III. Even the Pentax K-1 Mark II beats the A7 III, with its 36.4 MP sensor.
But pixels aren't everything, and 24 MP is still enough to produce high-quality enlargements and meet most common commercial demands, and that's what makes the A7 III's amazing combination of speed, performance and value possible. Other cameras may make headlines in one area or another, but few are as good in such a wide range of disciplines.
